Highmark Inc. and Geisinger Health Systemhave reached a five-year contract extension, the companies said Wednesday.
Financial terms of the deal that will run through 2019 weren’t announced. The agreement calls for Geisinger Medical Center and Geinsinger Clinic doctors, in the eastern part of Pennsylvania, to stay as in-network providers.
“Working together with health systems like Geisinger will help to continue to drive value for our members as we partner to improve quality and affordability,” said Mike Fiaschetti, President of Health Markets, Highmark Inc., in a prepared statement. “This agreement will enable us to maintain our long-standing relationship with Geisinger Health System and provide our members with continued access to Geisinger’s excellent medical facilities and physicians. Their reputation for delivering outstanding care is nationally recognized.”
Geisinger is based in Danville and has a number of hospitals in central and eastern Pennsylvania, including in Danville, Bloomsburg, Wilkes-Barre and Scranton, plus facilities in Lewistown and Port Matilda near State College. It also has insurance company Geisinger Health Plan, which is also based in Danville.
