Just a few months after announcing it would bring 40 new jobs to Buffalo from an outside operation, BlueCross BlueShield of WNY has surpassed its goals and hired 50 employees.
The company in May said it would shiftmore than three dozen jobs by year’s end from an out-of-town business unit near Philadelphia back to the company’s headquarters in downtown Buffalo, home to the bulk of its customer service and administrative services.
More than 1,000 individuals applied for the positions, leading the company to hire more than anticipated months ahead of schedule.
The new employees, working in the claims, billing and enrollment and customer service areas, began six-week training programs on Monday. Thursday, they’ll join David Anderson, president and CEO, and Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown for a welcome lunch.
The new employees join workforce of more than 1,400 employees downtown at HealthNow New York, the parent of BlueCross BlueShield of WNY. The $2.5 billion organization has a total workforce of 1,900 and serves more than 900,000 members across the state.
