Highmark Inc. has reached a multiyear contract with Conemaugh Health System in Cambria County, giving the insurer’s members in-network access to three hospital campuses.
Conemaugh will also be participating in Highmark’s patient-centered medical home program, which pays doctors bonuses for meeting quality-of-care metrics and holding down costs. Some 3,500 doctors and nurse practitioners participate in Highmark’s medical home and Accountable Care Alliance programs.
In May, Conemaugh’s board announced the hospital system would be acquired by Brentwood, Tenn.-based Duke LifePoint Healthcare. As part of the deal, for-profit LifePoint agreed to invest more than $500,000 in the system over the next 10 years. Duke LifePoint is a partnership of Duke University Health System and LifePoint Hospitals.
