Metro Health in Wyoming is among four health systems to sign value-based contracts with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan that base insurance payments for patient care on efficiency and quality.
The latest contract signings brings to 45 the number of hospitals in Michigan that agreed to a value-based contact with Blue Cross Blue Shield. They include Mercy Health in Grand Rapids and Muskegon and Borgess Memorial Medical Center in Kalamazoo, Borgess Pipp Hospital in Plainwell and Borgess Lee Hospital in Dowagiac.
“The emphasis on encouraging hospitals and physicians to work in close concert to improve patient care and lower costs is a key element in shifting our model of care from one based on volume, to one that focuses on providing high quality care at a lower cost,” Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan President and CEO Daniel J. Loepp said. “The hospitals joining us by adopting this model are leading an evolution in health care delivery by recognizing that patient outcomes – not patient volume – should be the foundation for reimbursement. Whether you have a Blue Cross card or not, this new approach benefits everyone in Michigan.”
The other hospitals signing new agreements are Detroit Medical Center, Allegiance Health in Jackson and Dickinson County Healthcare System in Iron Mountain.
