Hartford health insurer Aetna has been honored by the National Business Group on Health with the 2014 Innovation in Reducing Health Care Disparities Award. Aetna is a three-time recipient of the award that recognizes organizations for their commitment to equality in health care and exceptional support for cultural diversity.
Aetna has developed a unique, provider-focused pilot program for its African American and Hispanic members with diabetes in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area.
Together with the Medical Clinic of North Texas, Aetna found that using a bilingual nurse diabetic educator coupled with culturally- and linguistically-appropriate member health information was an effective intervention for improving diabetes care in provider practices. Over the two-year pilot program, patient’s Hemoglobin A1C levels fell, on average, by 1.6 points.
Webster Bank’s Mangan honored
Webster Financial Corp., parent of Webster Bank, recently announced that Terry Mangan, senior vice president of investor relations, has been named to Institutional Investor magazine’s 2014 All-America Executive Team list.
In 2014, Mangan achieved second place for best investor relations professional in the banks/midcap sector.
Mangan has now achieved a top three ranking in this category for three consecutive years. Mangan joined Webster in 2003 and has headed up the organization’s investor relations function since that time.
The Hartford recognized for climate change leadership
The Hartford Financial Services Group has been recognized by the Environmental Protection Agency in the third annual Climate Leadership Awards.
The EPA, in collaboration with several other organizations including the Association of Climate Change Officers, recently recognized 15 organizations that are addressing global climate change through policy, innovation and business solutions.
The Hartford received the “Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management — Goal Achievement Award,” which recognizes organizations that publicly report and verify corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) inventories and achieve aggressive GHG emissions reduction goals.
The Hartford set a GHG emissions reduction goal of 20 percent by 2017, and in 2012 had an emissions reduction of over 27 percent, meeting and exceeding its goal early.
Additionally, The Hartford purchased 20,200 megawatt-hours of renewable energy.
CT Convention Center sales director honored
Michele Hughes, director of sales for the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, was recently honored with the “Director of Sales of the Year” award during Waterford Hotel Group’s recent annual leadership conference and awards celebration, held at the Marriott Hartford Downtown.
The convention center was also recognized during the conference with a “Core Value” award for customer service.
