Thomsons Online Benefits, a leader in global benefits management and employee engagement software, today announced its cloud-based software platform, Darwin™, has been chosen by UnitedHealth Group, the global leader in health care. UnitedHealth Group has selected the Thomsons platform to administer and communicate benefits to employees based in the UK, Philippines, Canada, Ireland and India.
Headquartered in Minneapolis, UnitedHealth Group is a household name and the most diversified health care company in the U.S. It is also growing rapidly and employs more than 133,000 in a range of roles worldwide. Prior to partnering with Thomsons, UnitedHealth Group manually managed the administration and communication of employee benefits. This undertaking was time-consuming and often error prone for HR teams. To save time and increase accurancy, the health care leader integrated Thomsons’ Darwin™ platform as a solution to streamline benefit administration, governance and compliance across multiple regions. Darwin™ is also helping UnitedHealth Group meet the increasing challenges of engaging and communicating with remote employees.
Darwin™ has already been rolled out to UnitedHealth Group’s employees in the UK and the Philippines, with Ireland, Canada and the large population in India to follow shortly. The project is delivering against the objectives of UnitedHealth Group, removing paper-based administration and enrollment and improving engagement with benefits. Some locations are seeing up to a five-fold increase in take up. The implementation of an automated solution has also helped UnitedHealth Group deal with certain legislative requirements such as auto-enrollment in the UK — a task that would have been impossible for the previous manual system.
“Darwin™ is enabling UnitedHealth Group to manage its current global population more effectively, and is providing the flexibility to easily build on any potential business acquisitions as it continues to grow,” said Chris Wakely, head of Thomsons North America. “It has a global strategy to drive an HR self-service culture, which includes enabling its people to take ownership and control over their benefits. We are supporting this mission by implementing Darwin™ to provide a quick return-on-investment in terms of the time saved in administration and the increased employee engagement. We are also delivering the perfect platform for UnitedHealth Group to continue to improve its reward strategy and communication to employees, ensuring it is able to do its ‘life’s best work.'”
