California app developer has released a cancer-fighting game supported by Bloomfield health insurer Cigna.
HopeLab’s ‘Re-Mission 2: Nanobot’s Revenge’ is available for free on Android and iOS tablets and phones.
Cigna said the game is meant to generate positive emotions and confidence in young cancer patients and to shift their attitudes about chemotherapy.
The game puts the player inside the body to fight cancer, using chemotherapy, antibiotics and human cells as weapons.
More than 120 teenagers and young adults with cancer worked with HopeLab to develop and test the game, which is one of six made by the developer.
Cigna helped HopeLab to distribute the original ‘Re-Mission’ game on CD and DVD in 2007.
