BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee (BlueCross) has promoted Robbie Sims to the position of director of internal audit. In this position, Mr. Sims will be responsible for directing the activities and resources of the internal audit department including: internal controls over financial reporting, external audit coordination, corporate attestations, and financial, operational, and information technology audits.
“I have had the privilege of working with Robbie for more than 13 years,” said Dennis Culver, vice president and chief audit executive for BlueCross. “During that time he has helped build an outstanding audit organization that has been recognized for best-in-class performance by the health insurance industry.”
As manager of internal audit, Mr. Sims was instrumental in implementing a high performance, risk-based internal auditing function, which was recognized for exemplary practices by the BlueCross BlueShield Association.
Prior to joining BlueCross, Mr. Sims was a senior financial risk consultant for Unum where he provided financial guidance both internally and externally, including operations, account management, legal, policyholders, and brokers. He was also a key player in developing processes that significantly enhanced the accuracy of disability claims, while protecting against fraud.
Mr. Sims graduated from Jacksonville State University in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in accounting. He is a certified public accountant and a chartered global management accountant. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants.
