BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee has promoted Dennis Culver to the position of vice president and chief audit executive. In this position, Mr. Culver will be responsible for directing the operations of the internal audit division, which includes the internal audit, internal controls, claims audit, provider audit and quality assurance teams of the Chattanooga-based insurer.
“Dennis joined BlueCross in 2005 as senior manager of internal audit,” said John Giblin, executive vice president and chief financial officer for BlueCross. “Since that time he has made substantial leadership contributions, and has built an outstanding team that provides assurance that BlueCross’ operations are effective, and our assets and financial information are protected.”
Under Mr. Culver’s leadership, the BlueCross internal audit team has received three Best of Blue Awards for excellence from the BlueCross BlueShield Association, developed and successfully implemented auditor rotation programs, and passed two external quality assessment reviews which recognized BlueCross for numerous best practices.
Prior to joining BlueCross, Mr. Culver was assistant vice president of customer care financial services at Unum and controller at Siskin Hospital for Physical Rehabilitation. He started his career in public accounting where he led audit and consulting engagements for clients that included hospitals, universities and health care related companies.
Mr. Culver has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration – Accounting from Auburn University. He is a member of the American Institute and Tennessee Societies of Certified Public Accountants and Financial Executives International. Outside of work he is active in the community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Club of Chattanooga and the Leadership Chattanooga Alumni Association. He and his wife, Amy, have two sons, Matthew and Walker.
