Horizon NJ Health, which provides Medicaid and NJFamilyCare services under contracts with the state of New Jersey, has been awarded commendable accreditation status from the National Committee for Quality Assurance.
The NCQA is best known for recognizing medical practices that seek to improve patient care by becoming patient-centered medical homes. Horizon NJ Health, a wholly owned subsidiary of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, has more than 560,000 members in New Jersey.
“Medicaid continues to build upon its value-based purchasing strategy, and will be incentivizing the Medicaid HMOs to seek NCQA accreditation, which demonstrates clearly a health plan’s commitment to quality services,” said Nicole Brossoie, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Human Services, which runs Medicaid and NJFamilyCare, the state and federally funded health care programs serving low-income New Jerseyans.
“NCQA accreditation ensures our members receive quality services that ultimately result in better health outcomes as we manage their health care needs,” said Dr. Philip M. Bonaparte, chief medical officer of Horizon NJ Health, in a statement. “This accreditation demonstrates that we are committed to providing evidence-based care, using resources efficiently, having a high level of member satisfaction and delivering improved outcomes.”
