UnitedHealthcare said Tuesday it will hire 230 new employees in Colorado to help serve its $20.5 billion contract with the U.S. Defense Department Tricare West Region.
The new employees will work in Colorado Springs at the primary telephone customer service center for nearly 3 million Tricare beneficiaries and their health care providers in 21 states, including Minnesota.
That department will open April 1, Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) said in a news release. UnitedHealth Group is the parent company to Unitedhealthcare.
The new hires will bring UnitedHealth’s total number of employees in Colorado to more than 1,500.
UnitedHealth won the six-year Tricare contract from TriWest Healthcare Alliancelast July after a three-year battle. Phoenix-based TriWest had handled the contract for 16 years.
