UnitedHealth Group Inc. is hiring nurses and other professionals to staff a new business-support office in Manila, Philippines, reports the Manila Standard Today newspaper.
The paper didn’t say how many people the Minnetonka-based insurer aims to employ in the country. An elected official, Roman Romulo, told the publication that UnitedHealth (NYSE: UNH) seeks to hire Filipino nurses who have U.S. licenses to serve as clinical managers, clinical-quality analysts and nurse associates.
In addition, the company is looking for medical billing coordinators, health care experts and customer service representatives.
Health insurers have outsourced tasks like data processing for years, but more recently have begun hiring nurses based overseas to provide clinical services to members, the Los Angeles Times reportedover the summer.
WellPoint Inc. and Aetna Inc. are among the insurers who have outsourced clinical-support services in recent years.
