Capital BlueCross and Harrisburg University are partnering to provide internships to students majoring in health care analytics, a rapidly-growing field throughout the health insurance industry. Health care analytics is the use of data, such as electronic health records, to monitor trends of past behavior, predict future outcomes and help make preemptive medical decisions to improve a person’s wellness.
Harrisburg University’s new health care analytics degree program will help to produce more college graduates who are job-ready in this field. This benefit will be driven by the industry experience and professional mentorship the students will receive through a structured series of internships at Capital BlueCross, along with an intensive and very focused curriculum offered by Harrisburg University.
Harrisburg University is offering graduate and undergraduate health care analytics degrees for the first time beginning in the spring of 2013. Students selected for the initial term of the paid internship program will begin their work at Capital BlueCross in the summer of 2013.
Students who complete one of these degree programs and the internship requirements will be considered by Capital BlueCross for employment in health care analytics for any open positions that are available following their graduation.
“Students are drawn to Harrisburg University because of our commitment to a hands-on education,” said Dr. Eric Darr, interim president. “Our partnership with Capital BlueCross allows students to have multiple significant professional experiences that perfectly complement their classroom work. Internships at Capital BlueCross give students the opportunity to develop specialized skills that are highly marketable.”
