San Juan Regional Medical Center has chosen Cerner to replace over 75 health IT applications with an integrated medical, financial, and population health management system to support patients across the care continuum.
The Cerner EHR platform will allow each patient’s medical information to follow them in a comprehensive, efficient format providers can access in real-time.
“This decision will provide our physicians and clinical care teams access to sophisticated information technology and systems designed to improve the quality and safety of patient care while also improving the efficiency of documenting and communicating clinical information throughout San Juan Regional Medical Center and its outlying facilities,” said Jeff Bourgeois, president and CEO at San Juan Regional Medical Center.
“Our investment in Cerner’s comprehensive system,” he continued, “demonstrates our commitment to making sure we are not just caring for the sick but also focusing on improved health of the Four Corners residents.”

HealtheIntent, Cerner’s real-time population health management platform for collecting data from several external sources, will offer a complete, centralized view of each individuals healthcare record and medical history to ensure accurate treatment and ease administrative burdens for providers.
The medical center will use HealtheEDW, Cerner’s enterprise data warehouse solution, for help with population analysis and data insight to improve care coordination.
Finally, San Juan will utilize Cerner’s Millennium EHR and revenue cycle management solutions to combine clinical and financial information into a single platform, resulting in a clinically driven revenue cycle allowing clinicians and staff to update billing processes throughout a patient’s visit. Frequently and accurately updating the billing process should improve reimbursement and mitigate claims errors, as well as allow for more visibility in regards to their financial liabilities.
Improving the provider-patient experience from clinical, administrative, and financial perspectives is Cerner’s top priority in implementing their several-pronged EHR system into San Juan Regional Medical Center.
“Cerner is committed to working with San Juan Regional’s clinicians and staff to improve and extend care beyond the traditional hospital setting,” Cerner President Zane Burke. “Our integrated health IT system supports the delivery of more efficient, complete and effective care for Four Corners residents while providing clinical teams with the right insights to create a healthier community.”
Black Book recently recognized Cerner as having the EHR platform with the highest client experience and product satisfaction grades for end-to-end EHR solutions among inpatient academic facilities.
A pool of 1,435 electronic health record users comprising clinicians, CIOs, physicians, and IT support managers contributing to the six-month crowdsourced survey assessed five EHR vendors at 440 unique academic teaching institutions and healthcare delivery sites and deemed Cerner the most efficient and effective.
Last month, Cerner also reached an agreement with Children’s National Health System to become its revenue cycle management solution provider.
The pediatric health system will integrate Millennium Revenue Cycle, a patient-facing financial management tool intended to improve provider and user workflows in conjunction with its existing Cerner EHR throughout the 313-bed hospital and its 50 outpatient facilities.
The Cerner RCM technology will aid clinicians in updating billing, collection, and analytics processes throughout the patient’s visit in the same way it is set to help the pediatric health system’s patients and providers.
“We’re pleased with the success our relationship with Cerner has produced, and we’re confident these expanded offerings will continue to support our organization,” said Children’s National Health System CMIO & CIO Brian Jacobs, MD. “Incorporating financial data with our clinical systems, all on the same platform, makes sense and provides an integrated billing, analytics and decision support experience.”
