Confidential Computing Consortium is the word in the spotlight the technology world today. The big names in the IT world like Alibaba, Google, IBM, ARM, Microsoft, Baidu, and Red Hat have announced creating a joint confidential computing consortium. This Consortium intends to enhance the security of the data in use by the various applications and software of these companies.
Confidential Computing Consortium Needed to Endure Data in Use Security
The purpose of confidential computing is to safeguard the data in use. The present methods of data security only cater to data in the storage, and in the network transition; however, encrypting data in use is often not secured. Lately, it has been seen that data breach and hacking is mostly done within the gap of encrypting data and data storage.
These days applications follow end-to-end encryption; however, encrypting the data in use is the problematic part of the encrypted transmission of sensitive information. The Confidential Computing helps in processing the data in memory without showing it to the system and thus decreasing the risk of the sensitive data breach. It also gives more control and transparency to users.
Linux Foundation established Consortium which intends to amalgamate developers, hardware sellers ad open-source code experts. The purpose is to promote the implementation of confidential computing and protect data in a better manner with the advancement of open source code standards.

Now enterprise customers look for high-end data security. There is a high chance that methods like confidential computing will be more in demand for machine learning professionals.
With the various tech giants coming together and pledging to create the private computing consortium, there are high prospects of other companies contributing to it too.
To pace up the Consortium and initiate the work, various participating companies contributed various open-source projects. Microsoft gave the Open Enclave SDK to developers for creating TEE(Trusted Execution Environment) tools. Intel gave Software Guard Extension, a software development kit for protection of code at the hardware layer. IBM gave ENarx that is used to run TEE applications.
The Consortium is made since cloud computing gets more significant, and a lot of organizations are using different mediums like cloud-based environments, localized servers, and edge.
