Silicon Valley’s top 10 highest-paid CEOs of public company in 2016 earned an average of total compensation of $27.4 million each. This figure has seen a decline, as the previous year the average compensation recorded was $38.09 million.

Highest-paid CEOs, Here Are Some Highlights
Half of the top 10 chief executives in 2016 were also in the top 10 highest-paid CEOs list of the previous year. All of them moved up in the rankings except for Yahoo’s Marissa Mayer.
New additions to the top 10 highest-paid CEOs list include
- Redwood City-based Shutterfly’s Christopher North
- Palo Alto-based HP’s Dion Weisler
There are three women in the highest-paid CEOs list:
HPE, Palo Alto Margaret Whitman who moved back to the top 10 after a 13 percent pay drop to $17.1 million in 2015 from the previous year. Safra Catz and Marissa Mayer are the other two.
In the fiscal year end 2015, the highest compensation totaled to $77.32 million. Lyndon Rive of San Mateo-based SolarCity Corp received that massive pay. This year CEO Mark Hurd with the highest compensation pulled in $41.12 million.
Note the total compensation is derived from salary, NEIP payouts, stock and option awards, bonuses and pay classified as “other.”
