Former rivals Microsoft and Salesforce showed off the results of their strategic partnership on Monday, unveiling ways for customers to use Salesforce software that will help businesses manage customer relationships on Windows platforms.
The programs include Salesforce1 for Windows, Salesforce for Office, Power BI for Office 365 and the ability to integrate Excel with Salesforce. Most of the solutions will become available sometime next year. Salesforce Files, which lets people “unlock files from Microsoft Sharepoint” in the context of Salesforce, is already available.
“Our focus is on empowering every individual and organization on the planet be more productive – and that’s exactly what this partnership will fuel,” said Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella in a press release.
Salesforce’s CEO Marc Benioff said a year ago, he wouldn’t have thought Microsoft would be at his company’s conference Dreamforce on stage with him. But he pointed out that Microsoft’s leadership has changed.

Tony Prophet, corporate vice president of Windows Marketing, said Microsoft is committed to building open platforms, which means embracing partners and innovation.
“I see a company very focused on the mobile and cloud (computing) world,” said Prophet to a large audience at Dreamforce on Monday.
Microsoft executives at tech press events have said they are making efforts to listen to their customers. The company recently unveiled Windows 10, with changes that will be more natural and familiar to past Windows users, executives said.
