Online retail giant Amazon’s much-improved and well-equipped tablet lineup – dubbed Kindle Fire HDX – is set to hit the markets on October 18.
The new Kindle Fire HDX tablet, which is currently available for pre-order, underscores Amazon’s relentless efforts to make its Kindle Fire tablet lineup sleeker and lighter. The tablet debuts the Android-based Fire OS 3.0, which will be upgraded to Fire OS 3.1 version in November, so as to bring about an enhancement in the device’s speed and responsiveness.
The elegant, 10.7 oz. Kindle Fire HDX is fairly akin to the Kindle Fire HD tablet in terms of industrial design. The HDX will retail for $229 for the entry-level 16GB version; and its lineup will also comprise some other models which boast additional capacity and built-in LTE wireless broadband.
Some of the key features of the Kindle HDX include a 7-inch 1900-by-1200 pixel screen; a 2.2-GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor; 2GB of RAM; and a battery which, according to Amazon, can last an estimated 11 hours with general usage or 17 hours of book reading.

One of the most impressive features of the Kindle Fire HDX is the `Mayday’ customer-support feature. The press of the Mayday button prompts the popping up of a small window, which brings up a live video of a Kindle tech-support representative. The tech-support advantage for the Kindle Firs HDX users will be available 24/7, 365 days a year.
