Within just 12 hours of Outlook.com’slaunch on Monday night, Microsoft signed up 1.5 million new users to Outlook.com. Remarkably, these numbers don’t include current Hotmail users, whom Microsoft emailed shortly after the launch encouraging them to switch to the new email service.
Outlook.com, which was released in “preview” version last summer, offers a cleaner, more modern user interface that’s more intuitive than Hotmail, improved support for organizing email and cleaning the inbox, with sweep and schedule clean-up standing out as favorite features, and connections to popular social networks, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Microsoft notes that current Outlook.com customers especially enjoy the SkyDrive integration, with more than half a billion photos and Office documents shared by Outlook.com customers via SkyDrive.
With the launch of Outlook.com, Microsoft’s new email service is officially the world’s fastest growing email service, going from 0 to more than 60 million customers in just 6 months.
