Dell Inc. Chief Information Officer Adriana Karaboutis is leaving the Round Rock-based computer company to work at a biotechnology company in Cambridge, Mass.
Karaboutis, who joined Dell in 2010, plans to work for Biogen Idec Inc. as executive vice president of technology and business solutions starting next month, the biotech company disclosed Thursday.
She is the fourth senior executive to depart Round Rock-based Dell since the company was taken private in October 2013. Dell, the No. 3 computer maker in the world, employs an estimated 14,000 workers in Central Texas. It has not formally announced Karaboutis’s departure because the company only announces “senior leadership moves,” spokesman David Frink said Friday.
In January, Dell disclosed that Chief Financial Officer Brian Gladden wasleaving “to pursue other career interests.”Gladden has not announced taking any new position since then.
In December 2013, President and Chief Commercial Officer Steve Felice announced his departure to become the president and CEO of Chicago-basedFiltration Group Corp. Before that, General Counsel Larry Tu was enlisted by New York-based media giant CBS Corp. (NYSE:CBS) as the company’s Los Angeles-based chief legal officer.
Last year, an investor group led by CEOMichael Dell and California-based Silver Lake Partners completed a $24.9 billion leveraged buyout. Michael Dell now owns 75 percent of the company. The go-private deal was designed to enable Dell, which had been publicly traded for 25 years, to shift its focus beyond personal computers to the higher profit margins provided by software, services and other networking tools.
