Once, Yahoo completely ruled the e-mail market. Today, the Brand is slowly becoming a piece of history as it decides to shut down another of its services, this time in the form of Yahoo Groups. The company has announced it will wind up the Yahoo Groups website in a two-phase manner, eventually making it disappear.
Yahoo Groups offers like-minded users the opportunity to get together and discuss content amongst themselves. Members of a Group can share files, save the conversations, conduct polls and send messages to one another in a friendly and easy way.
Although Yahoo Groups isn’t widely used now a days, it has been in existence for the last 18 years. However, come October 28, a number of features including Files, Conversations, Polls, Links, Photos, Folders, Database, Attachments, Calendar, Email Updates, Message Digest and Message History, will no longer be available.

In a blog post, the company said in a notice to users,
“Yahoo has made the decision to no longer allow users to upload content to the Yahoo Groups site.”
You won’t be able to upload any more content to the site from October 28. All previously posted content on the site will be permanently removed by December. You’ll have until that date to save anything you’ve uploaded. The shutdown notice links to a page that provides instructions for requesting a download of all the Yahoo data.
The page also says that,
“It can take up to 30 days for the request to finish processing and the download to become available.”
The Yahoo Groups site will continue to exist after December 14. Yahoo said that all public groups will be made private and restricted. Users will be able to communicate with their groups via email and admins will have limited access to group settings and administration tools.
The Yahoo Groups sites is already a neglected entity today. On visiting the Yahoo homepage, you can see the lists of groups that haven’t been active for many years. Also, the home page links to the Yahoo Groups official blog, which hasn’t been updated since October 2014. When you click on any particular group, you’ll see a notice at the top corner of the page that warns you about the impending shutdown.
