Infosys Ltd, the India-based computer services giant, hyped its latest strategy on US hiring. The company would now hire and train 10,000 American workers over the next two years. This announcement came at the company’s annual leadership meeting in San Francisco.
Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka said,

Infosys To Recruit 10,000 Americans, Key Highlights
1. Infosys is the largest employer of workers under the U.S. H1-B visa program for skilled workers. This has been troubled after Trump’s administration and moves to tighten the immigration laws.
2. Around 3 weeks ago they announced their plans to hire 10,000 Americans.
3. Infosys would open four centres in the US in the coming two years. These centers would typically focus on technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. The first such centre would come up in Indiana by 2017, the company leased a 35,000 square feet office space in downtown Indianapolis for the same. Infosys said in a statement that the Indiana centre is expected to create 2,000 jobs for American workers by 2021.
4. These developments have come after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order for an refit of the country’s visa system. The order required raising the minimum salary requirements of an H-1B worker from $60,000 to $130,000.
5. The company’s deputy chief operating officer, Ravi Kumar, said the company would hire both experienced professionals and college freshers at a range of skill levels.
6. Infosys plans to follow an alike strategy to the one it follows in India — i.e. to hire a mix of experienced technology professionals and graduates from major universities and local and community colleges. Then further train them on skill sets, such as user experience, cloud, artificial intelligence, big data and digital offerings.
7. During the company’s annual leadership meeting, they also highlighted the launch of Infosys Nia. This is a new artificially intelligent service which is designed to allow IT professionals to automate more of their tasks.
Apart from Infosys, both TCS and Wipro have made public their intent to hire in the US. Infosys and Wipro did not reveal the number of employees based in the US, but Rajesh Gopinathan, TCS CEO and Managing Director said that in FY17 it recruited around 11,500 employees outside India.
