Smartwatches are starting to look like regular watches. Movado, a Swiss watchmaker known for its crisp designs, has partnered with HP Inc. for its Bold Motion smartwatch. It will do all thesmartwatch things — alert you to emails, texts, phone calls, meetings and even track your steps — but it won’t look like a shrunken phone screen that’s strapped on your wrist. The smart timepiece retains Movado’s simplicity and tradition with a circular disc that marks 12 on the dial but it comes to life with subtle vibrations and aqua-hued LED clues in sync with notifications on your phone.
The Bold Motion, Engineered by HP has bluetooth connectivity and it’s both, Android and iOS compatible. It has a round black dial, a black silicone strap and a 44mm stainless steel case — only a tad thicker than the company’s 39mm original Bold watch series — that makes room for HP’s computing power inside.
Engineered by HP is a program that allows HP to slip technology into fashion accessories. Previous partnerships include a Michael Bastian smartwatch and Vivienne Tam netbook. The collaboration with Movado, while a fashion-heavy extension of the program, is also indicative of the smartwatch peer pressure traditional watchmakers are under.
