Your grocery list may not seem like something that needs the help of artificial intelligence but the makers of Capitan say otherwise. The app aims to make your shopping list smarter with proactive suggestions, collaborative editing and real-time reminders.
How it works: Add items to your list and the app auto-organizes them into categories based on items that are likely to be grouped together in the store (cheese, grains etc.) You can also share lists with multiple friends and family members who are able to add items they want to the list (the app will alert them when you get to the store.)
Pro-tip: As you use the app more, the app will predict items you may need based on what you frequently buy and will remind you during shopping trips.
Great Big Story is all about telling intriguing stories in bite-sized videos. Though the app is backed by CNN, its content focuses more on historical anecdotes, profiles and other features than straight news.

How it works: The app offers up a handful of short video stories each day — often centered around one individual like the man behind the voice of the Kool Aid mascot or Lisa Frank. Scroll through the stories of the day or browse themed playlists.
Pro-tip: Favorite stories you want to watch again or watch later so you can easily find them. The company also puts out a newsletter so you can see the day’s stories in email form
Launchify isn’t a launcher app but the Android app does take a similar approach to recommending apps based on the ones you’re most likely to need at any given moment.
How it works: The app puts a row of app shortcuts on your lock screen and notification center. The suggested apps change throughout the day based on your location and previous habits — you may be more likely to see a Maps app when it’s time to leave work for example. Since the app learns from your behavior, its recommendations will improve over time.
Pro-tip: You can set custom apps to pin shortcuts to apps you always want to see in the app’s settings.
The original social trivia game, Trivial Pursuit is finally entering the mobile space with Trivial Pursuit and Friends. The game allows you to compete with others from all over the world in head-to-head trivia matchups in a variety of categories.
How it works: The game consists of two main modes: Duel and Blitz. Duels pit two players against each other — you can challenge people you know or have the app randomly select another player — in six-round games. Blitzes are faster group matches with as many as three other players competing in quick rounds.
Pro-tip: Winning games will help you unlock more power-ups like extra time, re-spins and tips from other players.
How it works: The latest update makes it easier to find your favorite destinations, contacts, your locations and ETA and other actions you frequently use. The app will also now sync with your calendar to alert you to when you need to leave to make it to your next appointment on time. Better yet — Waze says the new app uses significantly less battery than previous versions.
Pro-tip: You can now check out alternate routes, adjust your route or share an ETA from the drop-down menu underneath your ETA in the app.
