Alibaba co-founder and chairman Jack Ma signaled interested in partnering with Apple and their newly-launched mobile payments service Apple Pay.
During an interview at the WSJDLive technology conference Monday, as reported by The Wall Street Journal, Ma said he sees “great opportunities” for e-commerce to thrive in the U.S.
“I hope we can do something together,” Ma said of a potential partnership with Apple.
At the same conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook said he planned on meeting with Ma later in the week to discuss working together.

Cook praised the success of Apple Pay during a separate interview at the conference, noting more than 1 million people have activated credit cards to use with the mobile payments service.
However, Apple Pay has been met with some pushback from retailers who have joined to launch their own mobile payment system called CurrentC in 2015. Recently, Rite-Aid and CVS — backers of CurrentC — cut off support to Apple Pay. Other companies supporting the rival payments system include Best Buy, Target and Walmart.
