Blue Cross of Idaho declared that it will continue in the individual insurance market in 2018. It will also offer on and off exchange qualified health plans in every county in Idaho.
The company will increase its reach in each area, as members are providing positive feedback for its tailored networks. Blue Cross will be offering greater choice and health coverage for Idahoans.
Executive vice president of consumer healthcare for Blue Cross of Idaho Dave Jeppesen said,
“We’ve had positive feedback from our membership about our tailored networks, and we are pleased with our partnership with these provider networks to deliver high-quality health care to our members,” continued Jeppesen. “We’re expanding the areas where each network can be purchased so that Idahoans will have more network choices in the coming year.”
“As an Idaho-based not-for-profit organization, we only sell health insurance products in Idaho. Across the nation we are seeing insurers withdrawing from markets, leaving people who purchase on exchanges with little or even no choice. Today Blue Cross of Idaho is making a commitment to all Idahoans that we are here to provide access to quality health care and provide the peace of mind needed during an uncertain time in the health insurance market.”
Its plans are based on guided networks where a member first designates his/her primary doctor, who then refers a member to other doctors in the same network. Blue Cross of Idaho will add three more plans to their offering for a total of nine in 2018.
Blue Cross of Idaho is based in Meridian and has the largest share of the state’s health insurance market. It spent 82.3 percent of individual premiums and 84.6 percent of small-employer premiums on medical benefits. Blue Cross of Idaho has 49,792 people enrolled in coverage plans through Idaho’s health care exchange. Blue Cross serves more than 89,000 people with plans, both on and off the exchange.
