Soon, schools and educational institutions from the city will host lectures from the traffic police in the city. The workshops, this time, won’t be just about the traffic safety but also about a range of social issues. The traffic police has initiated a new project wherein a team of cops will visit different schools, colleges and educational institutions.
“This team will hold lectures and discuss a range of important issues with the students. From social issues to education, women empowerment and traffic issues, our team will talk on many subjects. The idea is to reach out to the youngsters and it will also be a learning experience for our team,” said Amita Vanani, ACP (traffic).
“This initiative will not just equip the cops with right knowledge and road safety management but also ensure that they have constructive engagement process with students and society with effective communication skills,”
Vanani told TOI. Nearly 10 such traffic cops are currently being trained by a team of experts from a private firm.
“The cops are being trained in verbal, non-verbal communication, stage fear management and maintaining enthusiasm. Our team is very excited about this project and we will soon begin reaching out to schools and colleges,” Vanani added.
The city police have been making several efforts to communicate directly with citizens over last few months.
The traffic cops had held a twitter interaction with Barodians in April for understanding their problems and offering quick solutions. The initiative was successful as many citizens interacted with the traffic police officials online and gave several suggestions. The police intends to hold many more such interactions in the coming days.
