The Odisha Environmental Society on Sunday called upon the industrial houses and other stakeholders to use advanced technologies for the safety of workers and protection of the environment.
Environmentalists speaking on a topic ‘Critical environmental problems at industries’ lamented that industries in India are not using technologies to provide safety to workers and employees and protect environment from pollution as developed countries do.
“Workers’ safety and environmental problems at industrial units are high in developing countries like India compared to development countries where measures are mandatorily taken for both inside and outside environment protection. To resolve the problems in our country, all stakeholders like industrial managers, labouers, visitors, environmental engineers, powered officers, legal experts and the judiciary should come forward,” said speakers.
OES president Dr Sundar Narayan Patra presided over the programme wherein Factories and Broiler Deputy Director Dr Malay Kumar Pradhan as chief guest. Pradhan emphasised that workers and employees should be given appropriate training and safety equipment.
Among others, OES vice-president Dr Lala AK Singh, secretary Dr Jayakrushna Panigrahi, Dr Seba Mohapatra, Dr Abhaykant Pathak, Er Binod Chandra Padhi, Er Subash Chandra Satpathy, Er Narayan Mishra, Er Prakash Chandra Jena and Dr Bhagirathi Behera spoke.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by secretary Dr Rekha Das.
