Admitting a petition highlighting lack of adequate fire safety measures at a private hospital Kalinga Institute of Medical Science in Bhubaneswar, Orissa high court on Tuesday issued notices to Khurda collector, DG of fire services, director of medical education and training and secretary of health department.
A lawyer Shivsankar Mohanty has moved court alleging that KIMS is not at all safe for patients as it is running without a valid fire safety clearance. The petitioner contended that in 2012 fire department had issued warning to KIMS to install fire safety equipments and had accordingly informed government department about it. Despite knowing the fact, neither Khurda district administration nor health department has initiated any action against KIMS authorities. “After SUM hospital tragedy also, government officials have not learnt any lessons,” cited the petitioner. The matter will be taken up for hearing on December 15.
