Hyderabad, Sept 10 (INN): At a meeting with the officers of Transport, Home and Education Departments on Thursday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao informed that the Road Safety Council met recently and took a decision that wearing of helmet by the two wheeler riders is made compulsory from 1st November onwards.
The Chief Secretary had an elaborate discussion with the Officers on Road Safety and wearing of helmets. Under Motor Vehicle Act, wearing helmet is compulsory. So, there is a need to change the mindset of the people by making awareness campaigns and benefits of wearing of helmets vigorously. Departments concerned should monitor and to enforce the rule wearing of helmet compulsory and ensure that people must respond positively in this matter, Chief Secretary said.
Nodal Agency for the campaign is Transport Department assisted by Police and involving the Education Department. Plan Awareness campaign systematically everyday till 31st October by sending bulk SMS to people, in televisions and through other publicity modes, conducting of special classes in the Colleges for the Students. There is a need to create a special website on the specifications and availability of Helmets.
The Chief Secretary informed that no registration will be taken up on 1st November onwards for the new two wheeler vehicles without helmet. Ensure that sufficient helmets made available in the market in all the Districts, Chief Secretary.
