The 24-hour hackathon to develop road safety solutions, organized by the Kerala road safety authority in association with the World Bank, will begin at Technopark on Saturday.
Around 300 professionals and students will engage in the coding event to be held till Sunday noon for developing hardware, software and mobile app solutions that will enhance road safety features. Participants will be divided into various teams comprising four or five members each and will be asked to come up with workable prototypes of solutions.
“We don’t expect them to come up with fool-proof solutions within this short span. Best prototypes will be identified by an expert panel,” said Kerala road safety commissioner R Sreelekha. The winner will get a cash price of Rs 1.90 lakh and the runner up a price of Rs 95,000. The plan of road safety authority is to support two or three teams that develop the best prototype so that they can come up with clean solutions in three months. “Then we launch those products free for users,” said Sreelekha.
Former director of RAW P K Hormis Tharakan will inaugurate the hackathon at Park Centre at 10.30 am on Saturday. On Sunday, home minister Ramesh Chennithala will deliver prizes for the winning teams at 3.30pm.
The hackathon at Technopark will be the first of the four world series planned by the World Bank.
