A fire drill on disaster control management plan was conducted at the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) bottling plant of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) at Peelamedu recently.
Coimbatore LPG plant is the largest bottling plant of BPCL in South India which supplies Bharatgas to a customer population of about 19 lakh people in 10 districts.
An imaginary scenario of gas leak was created and employees of the LPG bottling unit activated their emergency response system to arrest the gas leak.
The drill was assisted by personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services Station at Ganapathy, and a private hospital near the airport.
The objective of the drill was to keep major hazardous industries in preparedness to meet any emergency arising out of any eventualities such as LPG leak and fire. It was conducted in the presence of Joint Director (Industrial Safety and Health) K. Jagadeesan.
The drill was coordinated by Territory Manager of BPCL (LPG) Pradeep Nair and Territory Coordinator of the plant K.V. Ramesh.
