Country Retail Managers made accountable for implementing the company’s sustainability strategy
Ingka Group and IKEA India are taking the next step in transforming the business by integrating sustainability in its core retail business.
As part of that initiative, Country Retail Managers will be accountable for implementing IKEA’s sustainability strategy, People & Planet Positive, in their respective countries.
In India, IKEA will shift to electric vehicles for delivery services by 2025. Last year, the Better Air project was initiated with the goal of converting rice husk that is a major cause of pollution in northern India, into IKEA products.
Country Retail Managers will take a leadership role in taking forward IKEA’s ambition to inspire and enable one billion people to live a better life within the limits of the planet by 2030.
Sustainability performance will now be formally integrated into individual and team goals for the country.
“I have a greater responsibility to ensure that sustainability is integrated into everything we do as a business. It’s especially relevant for India and we have many ambitious plans. This gives me and all our co-workers great energy to create the new IKEA together,” Peter Betzel, CEO, IKEA India, said in a statement.
As well as working towards achieving science-based targets to contribute to fulfilling the Paris Agreement, the company is committed to a range of initiatives in its 30 markets.
IKEA said home solar, which is offered in seven countries, would be offered globally by 2025, furniture leasing would be tested during the coming year, and zero-emission home delivery, which is currently offered by IKEA Retail China in Shanghai, would be offered in all countries by 2025.
The change in the country organisation would take effect on September 1, 2019.
