To provide medications to customers in a matter of hours, CVS Pharmacy is rolling out same-day prescription deliveries. Shoppers can access the offering at 6,000 pharmacy locations with the help of Shipt, Chain Store Age reported.
The feature comes along with a one- to two-day prescription offering that shoppers can access throughout the country. CVS Pharmacy President Kevin Hourican said the company “redefined convenience for customers by introducing prescription delivery nationwide” one year ago. “Today we’ve taken another step forward by expanding same-day delivery nationwide and enhancing the experience with our on-demand delivery service,” he continued.
Shipt will deliver the prescriptions through the offering, which comes at a cost of $7.99. (Customers who are seeking a less expensive option or don’t need their medications as quickly can still tap into the $4.99 one- to two-day delivery option.) Shoppers can tap into the on-demand offering through the CVS pharmacy app, a phone call to the local pharmacy or an SMS text. Beyond prescriptions, shoppers can add products such as allergy medications and cold and flu remedies to their orders for delivery.
The news comes after it was reported in October that CVS was testing a service in Boston that provided shoppers with free delivery on prescriptions and online purchases, along with other perks. The CarePass program also offered a 20 percent discount on CVS-branded products, access to a pharmacy helpline and a $10 coupon each month. The membership came at a cost of $5 monthly or $48 annually, which was reported at the time to be lower than what Amazon charges for Prime.
