The Kroger Co. and Walgreens plan to launch Kroger Express, a curated selection of groceries, at 13 of the drug chain’s stores in northern Kentucky. In addition, Home Chef meal kits have rolled out to dozens of Walgreens stores in Chicago. The moves expand on a partnership the two retailers unveiled this fall.
The Kroger-Walgreens pilot pairs the nation’s largest supermarket retailer with the biggest drug chain.

Kroger Express is currently in operation at the Walgreens store in Florence, Ky.
Executives said the effort aims to promote a convenient, one-stop shopping experience for food, groceries, pharmacy, and health and beauty.
Home Chef parent Kroger launched Home Chef Express meal kits at 65 Walgreens stores in the Chicago area.
Kroger Express offerings include Kroger private brands, such as Simple Truth; national brand products; dairy, meat, produce and frozen items; and meal solutions.
For Home Chef, the Kroger-Walgreens program extends the reach of its meal solutions.
Twelve more stores are slated to be up and running with Kroger Express early next year.
“The Walgreens expansion provides more Chicagoans convenient access to a quick, simple meal,” said Robert Clark, SVP of merchandising at Kroger.
In the initial test, consumers were able to order Kroger groceries online and pick them up at a Walgreens store.
Walgreens will carry three exclusive Home Chef Express meal kits, with recipes rotating biweekly.
Industry observers have speculated that the Kroger-Walgreens partnership could expand to other categories, potentially even pharmacy.
