- Prime members get 5% back with credit card program
- Members also get 2 percent back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores, and 1 percent back on all other purchases made on the card
Starting today, Feb. 20, Amazon Prime members will get 5 percent back at Whole Foods supermarkets when they use their Amazon Prime Rewards Visa Signature credit cards.
The new incentive is the latest perk offered by Amazon to create more connections to Whole Foods, which the company acquired last year for $13.2 billion. Two weeks ago, Amazon began offering free, two-hour delivery from Whole Foods stores in Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas and Virginia Beach, Va., to its Prime members.
Amazon Prime is a $99 annual membership program that includes free shipping, streaming music and video and photo storage. Members currently get 5 percent back on any Amazon purchases when they use the Amazon Prime Rewards Visa card from Chase. They also get 2 percent back at restaurants, gas stations and drugstores, and 1 percent back on all other purchases made on the card. Now, the 5 percent back deal has been extended beyond Amazon.com purchases to include Whole Foods.
While the Amazon Prime Rewards card is available only to Prime members, Amazon offers a similar card called the Amazon Rewards Visa that’s more broadly available. Beginning today, cardholders of the Amazon Rewards Visa will get 3 percent back at Whole Foods, just as they do at Amazon.com.
