Whole Foods heard all the “Whole Paycheck” jokes and took them to heart. In May 2016, the grocery store opened its first lower cost alternative, Market 365, in Southern California. Since then, five more locations have opened in California, Oregon, Texas and Ohio. This week, the east coast will get its first taste of the Trader Joe’s meets Whole Foods experience.
Market 365 Fort Greene opens its doors to the public this Wednesday, January 31 in Brooklyn, New York. The store is located near the Barclays Center, and takes up a whopping 30,000 square feet of space (in New York, no less).
Since opening day is bound to be crazy thanks to gift cards and food giveaways galore, here’s what to expect once the madness dies down:
CHEAPER FOOD
The whole point of these “neighborhood markets” is to offer Whole Foods quality food at a lower cost, as well as convenient, grab and go healthy foods. Like the 365 stores before it, expect to snag some deals. Every day items like eggs, milk, bread, and produce can be found for less than at normal WF stores.

RESTAURANTS
Along with a quick-service section that’s similar to regular Whole Foods stores (fresh meat, seafood, antipasto bar, cheeses), 365 stores have non WF restaurants within their doors. The Fort Greene location is home to a Next Level Burger, which serves vegan burgers, fries, and shakes, Orwashers Bakery, Juice Press and POURiT Authority, a self service beer, cider, and wine venue.
LOTS OF BEER
The new market’s beer selection includes more than 100 craft, domestic and imported beers. Stock up on locally brewed beers from Coney Island Brewing Company, Brooklyn Brewery, and Sixpoint Brewery.
