Employment seekers looking for a job at the Target store coming soon to downtown Evanston can attend a three-day job fair that starts Thursday, city officials announced.
The fair will take place at the new store location, 1616 Sherman St., in the Shops at Sherman Plaza, according to a city of Evanston newsletter.
Target is expected to open there in the spring, and store management said in a news release that the plan is to hire 70 people.
“We are building a talented team to serve the students and residents of Evanston. Whether guests are stopping in to choose some of our grab-and-go food items and fresh produce or students are outfitting their dorms and apartments, this store in the heart of Evanston will will offer a customized shopping experience for the community,” said store team leader Krysanna Bowery said in the release.

The downtown Target is planned as one of the retailer’s new, small-scale stores and should cover about 27,400 square feet, Minneapolis-based Target officials told the Chicago Tribune when plans for the new store were announced last May. It will be geared toward downtown residents and workers, as well as students on the nearby Northwestern University campus.
The store is expected to include a CVS pharmacy, a grocery department, health and beauty items, clothing, toys, and household necessities for dorms and apartments, according to the Tribune report.
The store is expected to be Target’s ninth smaller model in the Chicago area.
Target opened a similarly laid-out store in the 4900 block of West Dempster Street in Skokie in October. That store is 33,000 square feet, about half the size of traditional big box Target stores.
The new Skokie Target opened adjacent to the Chicago Transit Authority’s Yellow Line Skokie Swift train station.
