MINNEAPOLIS — Supervalu here said Friday that Bob Bly, president of the Shoppers Food & Pharmacy chain, has decided to leave the company to pursue new career opportunities, effective immediately.
Bob Gleeson, vice president of merchandising, at Shoppers, and Micky Nye, vice president of operations, will lead the 56-store chain, based in Bowie, Md., on an interim basis during the search for Bly’s successor, Supervalu said.
“I want to thank Bob for the contributions he made during his time at Shoppers and wish him all the best going forward,” said Sam Duncan, president and chief executive officer, Supervalu, in a statement. “He helped guide the retail banner through a time of significant change at Supervalu, and his leadership is greatly appreciated.
“In the near-term, I’m pleased we have two very capable leaders in Bob Gleeson and Micky Nye able to immediately take over the day-to-day leadership at Shoppers,” Duncan continued. “Both have vast knowledge of the grocery industry and broad experience that will serve Shoppers well through this transition.”

Gleeson and Nye are longtime employees of Supervalu. They will report to Mark Van Buskirk, executive vice president of merchandising, marketing and retail, Supervalu.
Bly was named president of Shoppers in August 2012. Prior to joining Supervalu, he was a vice president for Sears Holdings Co., and previously had been an executive at Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Meijer Inc.
