Target is set to launch a six-month pilot that will put Best Buy’s Geek Squad agents in 29 Target stores, beginning early October. The Denver area Target stores will feature on-site Geek Squad tech experts and a comprehensive line of services ranging from pre-purchase advice and in-store device repairs to home-theatre delivery and installation.
After the pilot ends, Target will decide whether to place the agent in stores nationwide. The concept is also being tested at one store in Minnesota, where both Target and Best Buy are based.

The partnership will let allow Target to offer customers expertise with interconnecting mobile and home electronics, while it allows Best Buy another chance to build out its services business. The move is seen as an attempt to strengthen Target’s consumer electronics business. In the past, Target has used the Denver market to test other retailing schemes.
