The platform combines Change’s Intelligent Healthcare Network with the patient identity management technology from Experian.
Experian Health and Change Healthcare announced they’re working together on new technology that will be capable of accurately identifying patients across the healthcare sector.
The two tech vendors are building an identity management tool, focused on tackling duplicative records and patient identification challenges. Officials said it will combine Experian’s patient identity management technology with Change’s Intelligent Healthcare Network that connects providers and payers. Change’s network includes 700 channel partners.
The goal is to build a tool able to match records within a health organization and across disparate systems – outside of the network. Officials said the tool will be integrated into the EHR workflow across the care continuum and will be available for all U.S. payers and providers when launched.

Incorrect patient identity matching is a major challenge across the healthcare industry. A Pew Charitable Trusts report found that 20 percent of health records are incorrectly matched within the same healthcare system, which drives up costs and puts patient safety at risks, among other issues.
“It’s imperative the healthcare industry focus on accurate patient identification and data management to improve overall patient safety,” Jennifer Schulz, Experian Health Group President, said in a statement.
“Healthcare is a team sport, and various players have to coordinate to provide optimal care to a patient,” Kris Joshi, Executive Vice President, President of Change Healthcare’s Network Solutions. “Secure identity management is key to improving patient safety and capturing full value from the billions of dollars invested in electronic health record systems.”
