When it comes to diagnosing treating COVID-19, timeliness is imperative to avoid patient deaths. Several companies are developing artificial intelligence-based algorithms to help doctors analyze and diagnose COVID-19 in patients quickly.
The coronavirus has affected more than 3.7 million people globally, with the U.S. experiencing the most COVID-19 cases at just over 1.2 million so far, according to Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Systems and Science Engineering. Nearly 260,000 people have died around the world since the pandemic started, including more than 80,000 in the U.S.
Mayo Clinic developed an algorithm that analyzes the heart to understand cardiac involvement in patients with COVID-19, while Caption Health’s algorithm helps perform diagnostic quality cardiac ultrasounds. Since the virus significantly affects the lungs, Icometrix developed an AI algorithm to identify regional lesion burden in chest CT scans.
Here are three AI-based algorithms that are expediting the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19.
