“Country Roads,” sung by Barnesville Elementary students, welcomed President and CEO of WVU Health Systems, Albert Wright Jr., to Ohio Friday afternoon.
WVU Medicine recently partnered with Barnesville Hospital under a new clinical and management agreement. A ceremony was held to celebrate the partnership.
Wright says expanding WVU Medicine into Ohio was an easy decision as patients cross state lines and there should be no boundaries.
“We want to have the lowest costs; it’s very critical that we lower the cost of healthcare and have access for everyone. You are starting to see us bring more physicians out this way in partnership with Barnesville and that will continue,” said Wright.

“It’s still going to be the same high level of care we’ve always provided, but now we’re providing services that we haven’t been able to in the past such as orthopedic care,” said President and CEO of Barnesville Hospital, David Phillips.
The Ohio Valley has seen the closure of three hospitals this past year. Wright applauds the leadership of Barnesville Hospital for taking steps to secure the future.
He believes this partnership will keep local care in this community and beyond.
