In a partnership with two health plans, MetroHealth is expanding its Doc2Go direct-to-consumer telehealth service to college students in Ohio, Kentucky, Texas and Florida.
A Cleveland-based health system is partnering with two health plans to extend its direct-to-consumer telehealth service to college students in four states.
MetroHealth announced this week that its Doc2Go platform is now available to students at participating colleges in Ohio, Kentucky, Texas and Florida. The platform offers 24/7 on-demand virtual visits with healthcare providers for a range of non-emergency conditions such as the flu, sore throat, ear, eye and sinus infections, bronchitis, allergies and urinary tract infections.
The health system is partnering with Campus Unity Benefits and Hawaii Mainland Administrators to expand the connected health service.
MetroHealth launched Doc2Go in January as a free service to employees and their families, following a common game plan to create a DTC program and establish a patient base. But where many programs falter or even collapse when opening up to the consumer market, the health system is instead targeting its expansion on a specific population with identifiable access issues.
“We’re excited to expand our Doc2Go service to college students who are often far from home and need medical attention for common ailments that don’t require an office visit,” Nabil Chehade, MD, the health systems senior vice president and chief population health officer, said in a press release. “Doc2Go provides families with the security of knowing their loved one can quickly access medical attention from a trusted, board-certified medical professional any time of the day or night from anywhere in the United States.”
The July 1 launch comes with its advantages and disadvantages. The platform likely won’t see much growth during the summer months, when college campuses are traditionally empty, but that will also give administrators time to market the service and prepare for the influx of students this fall.
