The University Medical Center of El Paso was notified Thursday it is the recipient a Level IV designation for its maternal care.
This is the highest possible rating from the Texas Department of State Health Services.
UMC is now one of only three hospitals in Texas with that level of certification. No other hospital in El Paso is as highly rated.
Jacob Cintron, president and CEO of UMC, said, “This is a milestone for UMC and the many mothers and families in our region who can rely on us for the highest level of care when a newborn arrives.”

He added, “Our facilities and amenities for new mothers are second to none, along with the exceptional expertise of our partner physicians from Texas Tech.”
The Level IV designation requires the hospital to be prepared to care for complex patients, meaning it must be ready for high-risk situations with expertise, preparedness and facility coordination of high-risk patients.
As a partner in care with El Paso Children’s Hospital, mothers delivering at UMC also have immediate access to the EPCH and its Level IV neonatal intensive care unit, yet another layer of high-level and reassurance for expectant mothers.
