A new EHR-integrated provider directory from InterSystems gives users access to a single database for provider demographic and professional information.
InterSystems is updating its portfolio of health IT solutions with a new EHR-integrated provider directory that gives users access to complete provider demographic and professional relationship information from a single source.
The provider directory is part of InterSystems’ HealthShare solution, which functions as a single, unified EHR offering for clinicians, payers, and patients.
In addition to the provider director, InterSystems is also updating HealthShare’s clinical viewer, analytics, and interoperability capabilities. Additionally, the health IT solution now offers users improved functionality, scalability, communication, and clinical decision support.

InterSystems developed its provider directory in response to the healthcare industry’s ongoing problems related to inaccurate provider information. Incorrect telephone numbers and location information can impede access to care for patients. Additionally, patients may accidentally choose out-of-network providers and subsequently see an increase in healthcare spending.
Health plans also experience negative consequences as a result of inaccurate provider directory information, receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines for publishing outdated or incorrect directory information.
The HealthShare Provider Directory module offers users a master data management solution to automate the process of collecting, consolidating, and publishing accurate, updated provider data. The health IT module also facilitates improved customer service and business efficiency for healthcare organization administration and leadership.
“Interoperability and information exchange are hot topics now, but technology can do better than simply moving data around,” said InterSystems HealthShare Vice President Don Woodlock.
“If these government initiatives are going to be the foundation for innovation in healthcare, organizations need to aggregate information and build upon a true unified care record – then put the data to use to improve the patient care experience, drive down costs, and improve the health of populations,” added Woodlock.
The most recent version of InterSystems’ complete EHR offering also includes expanded Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources capabilities and data analytics capabilities.
“At InterSystems, we are committed to providing solutions that drive care coordination with enhanced intelligence to meet caregiver and patient needs,” said Woodlock.
HealthShare is intended to function as a unified, community-wide health record capable of enabling coordinated, value-based care delivery and population health management.
InterSystems offers users the platform to align payers, providers, and patients through clinical, administrative, claims, and social determinants of health data.
Currently, the Massachussetts-based health IT company currently serves healthcare organizations in more than 80 countries.
KLAS named InterSystems as one of the most popular health IT vendors worldwide in 2016, alongside Epic Systems.
InterSystems is an attractive option in foreign markets as a less expensive alternative to Epic and Cerner.
“Broad functionality and a light IT footprint have led to InterSystems being deployed by more hospitals over the past four years than any other solution,” wrote researchers in the report.
“InterSystems’ strong 2016 across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East — which included new contracts with several multihospital organizations in the UK and China —was driven by an all-in cost lower than Cerner’s and Epic’s,” researchers added.
InterSystems offers affordable product packages in countries such as the UK, where hospitals work with a tighter budget.
“With the push to get hospitals digital by 2020, the UK is still fertile ground for EMR selections,” wrote researchers. “However, money is not readily available due to NHS England’s tightened purse strings. Lower-cost suppliers DXC Technology and InterSystems are compelling offerings to both public and private organizations, and one trust is reducing costs by deploying Cerner in a shared environment with a neighboring trust.”
InterSystems also provides health data exchange solutions to several health information exchanges across the country.
