IBM’s David Kenny is leaving its cognitive solutions business to accept the role of CEO at ratings and data firm Nielsen.
As senior vice president of cognitive solutions at IBM, Mr. Kenny led artificial intelligence and was responsible for developing IBM Watson and the cloud. He joins Nielsen as CEO Dec. 3 and will also serve on Nielsen’s board.
Mr. Kenny departs IBM in a turbulent time. Revenue for the cognitive solutions division was down 6 percent in the third quarter of 2018. IBM Watson Health’s general manager, Deborah DiSanzo, left her role in October, and the Watson division has drawn media criticism for producing inaccurate results.
He joins Nielsen amid a strategic review that could result in a sale or other major structural changes.
