MEDITECH launched its next-gen, web-based Expanse EHR offering in February 2018.
The EHR platform is designed to enable healthcare organizations to further extend their ability to facilitate care coordination across the care continuum. The EHR solution offers a single, unified patient health record for providers in both inpatient and outpatient care settings.
Cedar County will leverage the MEDITECH EHR system to improve patient health outcomes, enable better-informed clinical decision-making, meet federal reporting requirements, and improve care quality.
Providers across care settings will utilize the EHR offering for clinical, administrative, and financial operations.
“MEDITECH Expanse is a robust software system providing integration that will improve communication between our hospital and clinic,” said Cedar County Memorial Hospital CEO Jana Witt. “We are excited about the functionality provided by MEDITECH Expanse and believe our patients will be able to be more active in their healthcare through the enhanced patient portal.”
Cedar County began working with Engage in August 2017. Engage helped to build the necessary servers and infrastructure to support the MEDITECH EHR system, and assisted with developing the project management, clinical, and revenue cycle consulting teams. Engage also helped with pharmacy integration and physician training to assist with the EHR implementation launch.
“We could not have been happier with our choice of Engage as a partner,” said Cedar County IT Director David Bozarth. “The Engage team came alongside, took ownership of their work, and became members of our team. Their understanding of the rural hospital setting and their flexibility were key success factors in completing this implementation.”
MEDITECH recently began offering users of its Expanse EHR system an EHR-integrated pricing tool to help providers and patients better manage the cost of care.
The EHR vendor announced DrFirst’s myBenefitCheck solution will be integrated into Expanse as a real-time benefit check tool to improve price transparency for patients and allow physicians to involve patients in the medication prescribing process.
In addition to displaying prescription price information, the tool also enables physicians to determine appropriate therapeutic alternatives for patients based on the individual’s medical need, insurance coverage, and medication costs.
MEDITECH aims to improve medication adherence and reduce prescription costs for patients by integrating the real-time benefit check tool and DrFirst’s Electronic Prior Authorization solution directly into its web-based, mobile EHR solution.
The tool also allows providers to begin electronic prior authorization requests directly within clinical workflows. This integration helps reduce data entry responsibilities on providers and limit administrative burden.
On average, the tool will help cut two and a half hours of administrative work per week.
