Amazon’s Sacramento, Calif., fulfillment center hosted six children diagnosed with cancer and interested in science, technology, engineering and math as part of the “Amazon Goes Gold” campaign, which aims to raise awareness for childhood cancer, The Sacramento Bee reports.
At the event, the kids took part in various STEM projects, including building a robot and racing it through a maze.
Amazon also donated $10,000 to Sutter Children’s Center at Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Medical Center.
Throughout the month of September — which is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month — Amazon is shipping packages in special boxes toting gold ribbons, the symbol of childhood cancer. The e-commerce giant also plans to team up with the American Childhood Cancer Association for an initiative dubbed Why Not Kids to bridge the funding gap between childhood and adult cancers.
