Montgomery General Hospital will launch a cloud-based MEDITECH EHR system through a Software-as-a-Service subscription model.
West Virginia-based Montgomery General Hospital will go live with a cloud-based MEDITECH EHR via a Software-as-a-Service subscription model.
MEDITECH’s Expanse EHR offering enables users to utilize a range of health IT tools and EHR functionality without implementing costly on premise hardware. The health IT company calls its SaaS deployment model MEDITECH-as-a-Service.
“MEDITECH is excited to deploy Expanse through the cloud-based MaaS model at Montgomery General Hospital,” said MEDITECH Executive Vice President Helen Waters. “The cost, quality, and regulatory pressures for our customers are mounting.”

“MaaS’ emphasis on fiscal responsibility and long-term sustainability positions Montgomery General Hospital to thrive in today’s value-based healthcare paradigm,” continued Waters.
Montgomery General Hospital is a 25 bed critical access hospital providing services to more than 1,000 patients in acute care and 40,000 patients in its ambulatory care setting. The CAH will officially og live with the EHR implementation in September.
“With the MaaS model, the implementation complexity is reduced to allow our organization to focus on what’s most important — patients,” said Montgomery General Hospital CIO Denzil Blevins. “MEDITECH has proven to be a supportive, dedicated, and loyal partner over the past 27 years and we’re eager to spearhead the MaaS model and deploy MEDITECH Expanse.”
The subscription model requires a minimal capital investment and allows for an accelerated implementation process. Additionally, MEDITECH assumes all responsibilities associated with system maintenance and operations to allow healthcare organizations to focus more on patient care delivery than IT operations.
The flexible contracts made possible through cloud-based EHR offerings are well-suited to the financial and administrative needs of small, rural, and community hospitals who may not have the IT staff or financial backing to support on premise EHR implementations.
Cerner to Take Over Administrative, Operational Services for NM Hospital
Elsewhere in health IT news, New Mexico-based San Juan Regional Medical Center recently reached an agreement with Cerner to allow the health IT company to take over administrative and operational processes at the hospital.
San Juan will utilize the Cerner ITWorks suite of solutions and services as part of an effort to optimize daily clinical and administrative operations.
The medical center currently uses Cerner Millenium EHR. By extending its partnership with Cerner, San Juan hopes to further optimize its EHR system to improve clinical efficiency and cut down on hospital spending.
“As a healthcare provider serving the Four Corners region, we always seek to improve the quality of care,” said San Juan Regional Medical Center CEO Jeff Bourgeois.
“This dedication to serve our community led us to this creative and innovative solution that will allow us to focus on our core purpose of providing healthcare services while collaborating with a global leader in healthcare information technology as we continue our journey to world class healthcare,” he added.
Providers and patients will benefit from improvements in EHR usability and IT assistance.
“As part of the agreement, our IT staff will become Cerner associates starting August 20, 2018,” said Bourgeois. “The transition will connect these team members to additional training, resources and professional development opportunities.”
“Additionally, eight new permanent full-time positions will be added to support our health system’s new IT solutions and capabilities, while creating new job growth for our community,” he continued.
The collaboration with Cerner will also give San Juan increased access to staffing and training, as well as a skilled IT workforce.
“Working together, Cerner will help San Juan Regional Medical Center doctors and nurses provide more efficient and effective care for patients,” said Cerner ITWorks Senior Vice President Dick Flanigan.
